A striped candy cane from one square of paper
This paper candy cane gets its red and white stripes all by itself: you fold one square into a long, thin stick, and the white back of the paper shows through as stripes. A little glue holds the end, and a gentle bend makes the hook.
Red paper with a white back is the classic, but green, gold or patterned paper makes beautiful candy canes too. Make lots of them: they are quick and perfect for the tree.
Kids can make it with the help of their parents. You can teach your child together: watch the video, follow the step-by-step pictures and fold side by side.

Questions
How do you make a paper candy cane?
Fold a square diamond almost in half, turn it over, then fold the long edge up again and again into a thin stick. Glue the end and bend the top into a hook.
How do you get the stripes?
Use paper that is coloured on one side and white on the other. When you fold it into a stick, the white side shows through as stripes.
What size paper should I use?
A 15 × 15 cm square makes a small ornament. Use a bigger square for a longer candy cane.
Do I need glue?
Yes, a little glue or double-sided tape on the last fold holds the stick together.
