A card with a secret inside

This pull-tab surprise card is folded from one sheet of A4 paper, with no glue and no scissors. It looks like a small envelope, but when you pull the little point, it unfolds into a long card with your message inside.

Write something like Happy Mother's Day! To the best mom in the world!, a birthday wish or a thank-you note, and decorate it with hearts.

Kids can make it with the help of their parents. You can teach your child together: watch the video, follow the step-by-step pictures and fold side by side.

Ideas for your surprise card

  • Mother's Day: hide it under her breakfast plate.
  • Birthday: write the wish inside, or a riddle that leads to the present.
  • Thank you: a little note for a teacher, a grandma or a friend.
  • Lunch box note: a sweet surprise for later in the day.
  • Invitation: write the party details inside. Make a paper tulip to go with it.

Questions

What paper do I need?

One sheet of A4 or Letter printer paper and some coloured pens. Coloured paper works too.

Do I need glue or scissors?

No. The card is only folded. The point tucks into a pocket, so it stays closed by itself.

How does the card open?

Pull the little point marked PULL. It slides out of its pocket and the long strip unfolds, showing the whole message.

What can I write inside?

A Mother's Day message, a birthday wish, a thank-you, a joke or a riddle. Write from top to bottom along the long strip.
