A beautiful paper leaf for autumn

This origami maple leaf is made from five small parts, each with three points. Glued together in a fan, they make a big, pointy autumn leaf that looks just like a real maple leaf. It is a lovely fall craft and a perfect Thanksgiving decoration.

Make it in red, orange, yellow and brown, or use one colour for each part for a rainbow autumn leaf. Small 7 × 7 cm squares make a leaf about the size of your hand.

Kids can make it with the help of their parents. You can teach your child together: watch the video, follow the step-by-step pictures and fold side by side.

Ideas for your autumn leaves

  • Thanksgiving table: scatter leaves along the table, or write each guest's name on a leaf as a place card.
  • Autumn window: tape a few leaves to the window, as if they were falling.
  • Leaf garland: hang them on a string, or make the kirigami leaf chain too.
  • Gratitude leaves: write something you are thankful for on the back of each leaf.
  • Classroom autumn tree: every child folds one leaf for a big paper tree on the wall.
